  •  Because people believe it............... (32+ / 0-)

I had to correct my normally liberal and reasonable, but politically uninformed, wife just last week.

We had just received another medical bill because her "in network" doctor had sent her to an "out of network" facility for tests. We had not met our "out of network" deductible this year so we were out about $400.

She said, "because of this I don't like Obama."  Of course, this problem had nothing to do with Obamacare. It was due to our lake of vigilance and her doctor’s mistake (intentional or accidental.)

Right now any failure, glitch, over-charge, etc. in medical billings and insurance coverage is being blamed on the ACA; and people, even reasonable ones, are buying into the Rethug framing. It will only stop with the opening of the exchanges and the full exposure of what the ACA will and will not do for our country.

The odd thing is, prior to the passage of Obamacare, any failure, glitch, over-charge was just they Way Things Are and Forever Shall Be.

Every annual premium increase that outpace inflation, well, that just must be how much it cost, otherwise why would insurance companies charge that amount?

It's interesting that people are only now becoming more demanding and passionate in their expectations of healthcare delivery now that Obamacare has passed.

Prior to this they were just passive recipients of whatever insurance companies handed to them.

You have a pre-existing illness? Tough luck. You're actually sick? Tough luck. No complaints, just acceptance.

Now that Obamacare is here and offers things like preventive care with no co-pays, we are under a tyranny that must be overthrown.

Being blamed for failures even if you didn't cause them is the cost of actually doing something. It's disappointing but it's preferable to being the party that creates donut holes for seniors and is actively trying to maintain our status as a wealthy country that refuses to find a way to cover 30 million of its citizens.

        Speaking of 'donut holes'....WTF?
Why weren't our legislators as fired up about that when that insidious piece of sh*t was enacted?
What a pile o' crap that is.
I'm being introduced to Medicare and am horrified that was allowed to happen.
THAT should have had a multitude of people up in arms.

Where were voting seniors, in particular the seniors who showed up in historically disproportionate numbers during the 2010 midterms to protest vote against congressional Democrats, and usher in the tea party until 2020, after having received donut hole-filling checks courtesy of the Democratic party?

Where was the breathless, weekly, daily and hourly coverage from Google News, Yahoo! NPR and the Associated Press, who have been all over Obamacare in a way that they never were for Medicare D or the Iraq war?

Where was the penny-pinching, read-the-bill, deeply-principled, GOP lawmakers who did not pay for Medicare D and did not read or skimmed over the part of the bill that required seniors to pay more out of pocket, and forced many to choose between medicine and groceries?

The overreaction to Obamacare and the under-reaction to Bush's and the GOP's unpaid for, poorly-executed Medicare D is one of the underreported political stories of the decade, since it was one of the most comprehensive, modern changes in health care delivery prior to Obamacare.

The donut hole thing is one of the most egregiously demented pieces of poo I've read in a long time.
I'm researching Medicare before enrolling and had to read and reread the part about the donut hole.  How could this crap have been enacted?  Discrimination against the most vulnerable, needy and desperate, the old and sick.  Despicable.

I work for the Federal Government and several premiums went up on insurance plans.  A lot of people screaming Obamacare!  They would be correct, except the premiums have been going up since pretty much the inception of the program in the 1990s and I am pretty sure there hasn't been an ACA passed eevry year.  Of course they convienently ignore that the premiums for several plans have gone down.
