Over the course of my 5 years in office, the American people have been asked to make sacrifices. This has been a hard road, but we are making progress, thanks in large part to the will and the sacrifice of so many of you.

Soldiers are about to see their paychecks held. Thousands of federal workers across the country are about to be sent home without pay. Services ranging from food stamps to social security to air traffic control are about to be squeezed down to their most minimal functionality. All of these things are going to stunt, if not reverse the progress America has made to come back from the economic devastation left behind by the financial collapse.

The pain so many Americans are about to feel due to the shutdown of our Government, unfortunately, is not a sacrifice. It is pain being inflicted on you, on us, because of a small radicalized portion of Conservatives in the United States House of Representatives. These members represent only a tiny small fraction of the American people, but have an oversized influence on our political system because of the silence of their Republican colleagues and the weakness of their party leaders.

Rather than using the Democratic process put in place by our founding fathers, House Republicans and their allies in the Senate are attempting to govern by crisis. I will not allow this subversion of Democracy to succeed and I will not allow a fringe ideology to be thrust upon the American people by way of hostage taking.

First draft...could obviously use some cleaning, but that's the gist of what I'd want to see him included in a prime time Oval Office address.

Our Fair City...a campy post-apocalyptic science fiction radio epic!
