  •  The diarist could have included a bit more (0+ / 0-)

information about who exactly is the Mayor Lumumba and may be who was the Lumumba after whom he neamed himself, right?

You were not aware of Patrice Lumumba's heritage?
Here is his Patrice Lumumba The First Prime Minister of the Congo (Zaire)  On June 30, 1960, Independence Day

    Here a quote:

But we, whom the vote of your elected representatives have given the right to direct our dear country, we who have suffered in our body and in our heart from colonial oppression, we tell you very loud, all that is henceforth ended....

I call on all Congolese citizens, men, women and children, to set themselves resolutely to the task of creating a prosperous national economy which will assure our economic independence.

I think the Mayor Lumumba you talk about is a worthy anchestor in his fight for economic equality ... some fifty plus years later.
... and if we can now give that some political content, some direction in terms of what we want to do in terms of taking these electoral victories, these economic victories and teach the message that we know from long ago, of self-determination, of self-governance, self-economic development,” Lumumba stated.
Just saying.  Here some memories of how the Congolese people felt at the time about those who wanted to "sack" Lumumba...

what the" diarist"  chose to do is provide a link and highlight the man in hopes that others would see something they hadn't..

I just didn't know enough about the Mayor Lumumba and the reactions in the thread were confusing to me.

My bad, I needed a bit more background. That's all.

        Peace.
