  •  So the diarist shouldn't tell her story... (0+ / 0-)

she should tell yours? Obviously you are much more important and your feelings need to be respected above all others.

This makes about as much sense as Mike Huckabee on mescaline. - Prodigal 2-6-2008

Nothing wrong with it. Note the OP didn't respond negatively to this comment.

If you were to reinforce any of the diarist's points, I'm sure that would be welcome.

      •  It doesn't come off as... (0+ / 0-)

a different point of view to me, it comes off as dismissing the diarists point of view. The last line So when you say we all have different stories, why don't you tell these, because they are far more common being the kicker.

There have been plenty of "successful adoption" stories in the media, particularly of people who went on to become celebrities (I can think of half a dozen or so in figure skating alone, starting with Scott Hamilton).

Happy families, though, as Tolstoy pointed out, are pretty much alike. And they're not news. (Tolstoy didn't bother to write about happy families, they weren't interesting enough to him.)

So yeah, we need all sides of the story/stories, in all versions - the successes and the failures and the just-scraped-bys.

Only then will we have some idea what we're talking about.

          If it's
          Not your body,
          Then it's
          Not your choice
          And it's
          None of your damn business!
