  •  The Republican Frankenstein Narrative (4+ / 0-)

The Republican Party has spent the past 40 years (since Nixon resigned) dedicated primarily to image making, not policy or governing. Teabaggers simply take that image seriously at face value, and ignore everything else. They are the ultimate post-Nixon Republicans.

The image is based on an apocalyptic "with us or against us" absolutism. The narrative, that is the only thing Republicans have invested in for 3 generations now, dictates that anyone less opposed to government must be the enemy. So even the majority of Republicans fear opposing their most extreme members, since the 20-25% of eligible voters who will vote Republican can always be told anyone less extreme is effectively a liberal/Democrat/enemy.

And since the most extreme all benefit the corporate anarchist interests of the small collection of Americans who have $billions to spend on every election and official action, the money follows that narrative too.
