    You need candidates.

There was a diary on DKos a couple of days ago that itemized the number of Congressional seats for which there were no opposing candidates.  It was a case of giving away the House again.

Steve Israel must go at the DCCC and someone who has some fire in the belly to win elections must be put in charge of the DCCC.

And the DNC must rediscover the 50-state strategy that Tim Kaine torpedoed in 2009.

Otherwise there's not going to be a referendum on anything.

What there will be is the Democratic candidate blowing gobs of money subsidizing the same media that is biased against them and likely in an environment of one billionaire-one vote - nothing-for-anyone-else campaign finance.

It's a tall order, but in 2014 Democrats have to operate in such a way that having large gobs of money doesn't matter and actually works to the disadvantage of the candidate with large resources.

And of course building name recognition and voter attitudes before the character assassins know you are there will be critical.  Otherwise we will have the same milquetoast candidates that have be holding places for the past two decades.

    50 states, 210 media market, 435 Congressional Districts, 3080 counties, 192,480 precincts
