  •  I heard it yesterday and had a similar reaction (2+ / 0-)

I do see the parallels between secessionist arguments then and some Tea Party arguments now. I don't know how to draw those parallels within a few words -- not sure it is worth trying.

    •  I really don't have a problem (2+ / 0-)

with it - since they are trying to secede from my U.S. (of course they don't view me as a valid citizen since I'm black, but my ancestors, some of them were here before Columbus, and others settled here in the 1600's from Norway)

      •  But they're trying to (3+ / 0-)

change your US, not secede from it. I like the other terms Moyers used, like "obstruction of democracy."

Hope you fall on your burger and fries.

...But when the conversation turned to the shutdown these three conservatives had only one group to blame.

To take some choice words from the tirade about the tea party I overheard, and pardon the language: "dumbest shit I've seen from a politician", "like a bunch of spoiled kids", and my personal favorite, the above, "want to break the whole playground because no one will play their game."

That does sound kind of like secession, yup. Then there's the whole thing about the legitimacy of the president....

I don't exactly have a problem with what Moyers said, but I had to translate it. Probably if I were more current in anthro, I could write a statement that would evoke a similar response in you. :)
