Taliban kill 2 children over espionage charges in Kunar

By GHANIZADA - Sun Oct 13, 11:53 am

According to local authorities in eastern Kunar province of Afghanistan, Taliban militants killed two children over espionage charges to the Afghan government.

You do realize that the people targeted by drone strikes are the people who order and organize this type of killing from their safe havens in the lawless Pakistani tribal regions, right?

    •  I know the people our President orders (4+ / 0-)

assassinated haven't had anything resembling a trial, and I know just how great our intelligence apparatus is at correctly identifying "bad guys", given how many completely innocent people they beat and tortured and confined for years.

      •  Whatever, man. (0+ / 0-)

Thousands upon thousands of civilians are killed by radical extremist groups in the Af-Pak region every year yet you choose to concentrate on the tens of civilians killed by drone strikes that are targeting the mass murderers.

Sorry if my concern lies more with those who are being terrorized and killed en masse.

most of the time, they have no freakin' clue who they're killing with the drone strikes
      •  Your conclusion from that article is terribly (0+ / 0-)

uninformed.  Just because militants are not designated as specifically being Taliban or Al Qaeda, it doesn't mean that they don't know who and what they are targeting.  For example, if a drone strikes a camp for the training of suicide attackers, they won't know who specifically has been hit, but they will know that they killed a bunch of suicide attackers....

BTW, you shouldn't just cherry-pick your sources....

        Try some balance:

According to our data, 6% of the fatalities resulting from drone strikes in 2011 were civilians, up 1 percentage point from the figure in 2010. Over the life of the program we estimate that the civilian casualty rate is 16%.

Clearly, as the years have progressed, the drone strikes have become more precise and discriminating. In March 2011, Pakistani Maj. Gen. Ghayur Mehmood acknowledged this when he said "the number of innocent people being killed is relatively low" and that "most of the targets are hard-core militants," the first such public acknowledgment by a senior Pakistani military officer.
