  •  The only way SS and Medicare would be cut (0+ / 0-)

is if Republicans demand it as part of a Grand Bargain on the budget.  To blame Dems for it is counter-factual and reflects a poor munderstanding of the parties' respective positions on the issue.  If you don't want to see SS and Medicare cut, then you should work to strengthen the Dems hand in the negotiations and weaken Republican power.

      cuts to SS and Medicare.

Republicans don't have to demand them, they only have to agree to what Obama proposed earlier this year.

No, Obama and Dems will be hung out to dry if these cuts happen.  The GOP will guarantee it.

      •  Obama's "budget" is merely a proposal (0+ / 0-)

and not a governing document.  And the chained CPI proposal was included as an opening gambit to counter the destruction of both programs contained in Paul Ryan's budget proposal.  That you don't understand that is indicative of your poor grasp of the negotiating situation and the respective positions of both parties on those Democratic programs.  You should examine the history of the programs and who has supported them throughout and who has opposed them throughout for better understanding.

You sound like a Republican; which is odd given that this is a Democratic site.  If you support SS and Medicare, it is extremely clear that you should support Democrats - not Republicans - and should blame Republicans if any cuts are enacted.

then maybe you should tell Schumer and Pelosi to stop offering them on live today this afternoon.

          •  I'm not sure what you mean... (0+ / 0-)

On kos, you can talk about anything you want.  If it's about SS and Medicare though, perhaps you should tell Paul Ryan and the Republicans not to propose voucherizing them - which would effectively terminate the very idea of both programs.  He offered to do that on live TV throughout last year's campaign and obliterating both programs has been a central part of his proposed budget for several years now.

What the Dems have been offering as a counter is to consider chained CPI (i.e., a reduction in the annual rate of increase for SS recipients) in exchange for Republicans agreeing to put increased revenues on the table.  That was the deal Obama proposed for this fiscal year in January.  And I think it is still the Dem position.

But that's so last year.  The budget talks stalled when Boner refused to appoint conferees and the current CR (to be passed today) contains no cuts or anything to SS or Medicare.  So, effectively, you are blaming Dems for their negotiating position from last fiscal year while refusing even to mention the Republicans' current negotiating position.  Which is a bizarre way of analyzing the current situation.

But feel free to accept Republican memes and blame the Dems instead of the Republicans just like Betty if you wish.

            •  I am blaming Democrats for what they said TODAY (1+ / 0-)

TODAY, live on TV, one after another after another talking about entitlement reform.

I don't need any Republican memes when Chuck Schumer cannot even wait until a deal is signed before offering entitlement cuts.

And every time Democrats say entitlement cuts, I say no effort, no money and no vote.

This is the issue I care about and this is the issue I will vote.
