WHile Cruz was admittedly born in Canada, his American citizenship is derived from his US citizen by birth mother, so he, like John McCain who was born in Panama, is a natural-born American citizen and eligible for the presidency, horrible as that prospect might be.

his parents were American citizens, but because his father was in the service when he was born and he was stationed in Panama at the time.  I believe he was born on base, which would be considered American soil.

I'm not certain of this - never researched it, but that's my recollection.  I don't believe just having a citizen parent is sufficient.

he was born on an American base in Panama. That means McCain is US-born, overseas (I used to be married to the son of a retired Colonel, all three of whose children were born in US Army hospitals overseas).

Cruz has no such claim. His dad is a fugitive from Cuba and he was born in a civilian Canadian hospital.
