  •  The point is that Social Security (0+ / 0-)

has as one of its aims making possible the retirement of the elderly, so as to open jobs up for the young. If Grandma doesn't have enough to retire on, she won't retire, and 20-year-old cousin Suzie won't get a job.

Only Pete Petersen and his ilk twist this into an intergenerational fight. That's just a dumb misunderstanding of the policy (or a malicious misrepresentation of it).

I think we should have both Social Security and a full employment policy. There's certainly enough work to do, and we sure have a lot of money every time there's a banker to be bailed out, a war to fight, or a nice juicy defense contract to hand out.

But as I clarified elsewhere, I don't mean I want to cut Social Security. I'm opposed to that.

What I'm saying is that if they cut Social Security without revolutionizing how we treat labor--i.e., raising wages significantly, creating public-sector jobs when the private sector won't create them, basically giving everyone the chance to earn a living wage--they will not only hurt senior citizens, but reduce this country to dust and ashes.

I tried to go online to find a similar bear head...but when I searched “Big Bear Head” it gave me a San Diego craigslist ad entitled “Big Bear needs some quick head now” and then I just decided to never go on the internet again.--Jenny Lawson
