  •  What a monumental waste of time and money. (6+ / 0-)

I can see Roger Ailes now, sitting at his desk and panicking, "Quick!  Mobilize the troops!  Somebody posted something on the Internet that's WRONG!"  (i.e., anti-FOX).

I suppose when they're not doing that, they go to the ocean and command the tide to roll back out.

I hope nobody here gets panicked about all this shit or starts suspecting people.  If Fox wants to waste their money that way, let them.  It's an idiotic and fruitless venture.

I've never been overly concerned about whether someone in particular is actually a "sockpuppet/operative" or not.

It doesn't matter if they are, when the result ends up the same: comment sections derailed as meaningful conversations are buried under countless exchanges relitigating already-debunked falsehoods.

Part of what's always made DailyKos great, for me at least, is finding comments that expand on a diary or offer a different take.

That becomes harder and harder to do as the signal-to-noise ratio starts going in the wrong direction.

So on sites like this one, where there are a lot of people who might potentially take action, pouring sugar in the gas tank might not be considered a complete waste of money/resources for those with a lot of both to spare, because some people will see big comment sections, determine that it's a flame war, and avoid either the comments or the diaries because of it.

Though I do agree, the ROI doesn't seem like it would justify a large scale effort.

On the volume and placement spam or post disrupting/ hateful racist comments can turn off potential readers who would instead have further investigated a story.  I'm sure there's all kinds of psychological group think explanations for it. He'll Walmart even had a person here ready to post their propaganda.  If it didn't work they would not pay for it.and they pay big.
