    Any predictions or over-confident hubris expressed here, I'm sure, has absolutely no effect on any statewide race.  However, such complacency can infect a campaign, and often tends to soften the candidate's message, dull the "ask" for people's vote in the final days, and, when that attitude permeates media coverage, can keep people at home rather than out voting.

    I suspect the final McAulliffe count was affected by that atmosphere of inevitability, and too many people relying on too early poll numbers in Virginia and in the national media is why, if that is the case.
