    women who lived through the childbirthing years back then (throughout most of history, I suppose) could live into their 60s-ish. The '35-40 lifespan' thing that's always quoted is an average -- child mortality was way higher, as was death in childbirth, but outside of the random influences of plague years, wars/fighting/inquisition (etc), there would usually have been quite a few older people around.
