  •  Turnout (5+ / 0-)

A buddy of mine won re-election in a non-partisan, city election last night. However, there was a "slate" of tea-party candidates running under a collective brand. My buddy should have won easily. He only squeaked by because Tea Party folk vote in 100% of elections. They always vote. Other folks have jobs, families and lives and tend to put other things first. We really need to change that.

moving all municipal elections to even-numbered years, to coincide with the statewide and Presidential elections. Only about 13K voters turned out for yesterday's election -- I'm sure there are far more than that in this city. It will be interesting to see what effect having the municipal elections coincide with other statewide elections will have, not just on turnout but also on interest in local politics.
