It should be easier to vote. Not that it's that hard in most places, but many people just can't be troubled to find out where to vote, walk or drive there, find parking if they drove, figure out which line to stand on, wait on line, sign their name, go to the booth, bill out their ballot, hand in the ballot, and go back home. Plus, the research you have to do to figure out who to vote for and how to vote on ballot measures. It's easier to just not vote. And the cynicism and discouragement people feel about politics further suppresses the vote.

At the very least, make it an all mail-in system like in WA & OR. I lived in WA for 10 years and it was so much easier (although I always walked or biked my ballots in to save on postage and make sure it got there in time). They should also make ballots postage-free. It would still be cheaper than running polling sites. Or have neighborhood drop-off boxes in stores and such.

Also, have early voting (which mail-in voting effectively is).

were registered as permanent absentee voters -- in California, that option is available. They did it mainly because of age and disability, but a lot of people who have long commutes (like those who live in the Central Valley but work in Silicon Valley) also register as permanent absentee. AFAIK, there's no requirement to show a specific reason -- nor do you have to give a reason for a regular absentee ballot for a single election.

Too bad more states don't make it easier to vote rather than harder.
