    A lot of different factors push the city towards the Republicans. It's the whitest city in Hampton Roads, it has a lot of country club Republicans in the northeast of the city, some evangelical influence from Regent University (though not nearly as pronounced as Liberty is in Lynchburg), and a lot of retired military. Most of the city is suburban (there isn't any urban center), while the southern part (Pungo area) is still pretty rural.

    Chesterfield's inner parts around Richmond are solidly Democratic but they're heavily outweighed by the outer suburbs.

      endorsed McAuliffe. Plus the percentage of the Republican dominance is dwindling every year. It will not be long before it goes blue too, IMO.

      ...African-American population of any municipality in the state. Only Fairfax and Richmond are higher on the list. As Phoebe suggest just above me, its days of being a GOP "stronghold" are numbered.
