    It should be added that McAuliffe's support didn't come solely from urban areas in the state; he did win some downstate counties and cities (Montgomery County, Radford, Roanoke, Martinsville, Danville, Prince Edward and Nelson Counties).  Granted,  those areas tend to vote Democratic in most elections, but it's still an accomplishment.  (Most of them voted for McDonnell four years ago.)

      I should have said "downstate," not "urban;" Roanoke is actually a decent-sized city (the largest in Southwestern VA).
