  •  My Canceled Plan Wasn't Crappy (0+ / 0-)

My Plan was cheaper because it didn't have up front cost sharing with co-pays like the mandated plans do. It had a a lower deductible then the Bronze Plan but ($3500) but only had co-pays for office visits and generic drugs, everything else was out of pocket except preventive care and yearly physical that was covered. Max out-of-pocket was $7000, again lower then Bronze and no lifetime cap. My soon to be canceled plan is $270 for me and my husband while the craptastic Bronze Plan is $670 for us because we are 49 and 51 and the new health care lets the insurance companies charge more the older you get and the flip side of no pre-existing conditions is no discounts for the healthy.

People who get their insurance through their employer don't understand that it is throwing money away to pay $6000 a year or more on premiums to get up front cost sharing if you are healthy and don't spent more the a few hundred dollars a year on health care, barring a calamity. Now we will be forced to fork over gobs of money that we can't afford to pay for health care that we won't be using. Up front cost sharing is very costly and the only people it makes sense for are those with on going medical problems or people with lots of kids. Everyone else loves it because they aren't paying for it, their employer is.

Most don't understand how insurance works. I've been in the industry for 45 years and it's astounding how people think the risk/cost equation works. It will be interesting to see comments on DK as this plays out over the next year.
