    would backfire big time. That would be putting them among the real reactionaries in the Church, the former colonials. The US church is by far more evolved than the rest.

    I believe that Pope Francis would prefer to lead by Christian example, which would have lasting effect, than by tyranny, which could easily be reversed by the next Pope. Many of the more superficial changes made by Pope John XXIII were reversed by his successors, but the permissions he gave Catholics to think, to be more moral and less legalistic, to pray in language that they understood, and so on have endured even when some of them had to hide out of plain sight. Pope John often said that it was time to open the windows of the Church and let in some fresh air, and it was said of Pope Paul VI that he decided that it was time to slam all of the windows shut again.

      With a papal order to remain silent and out of the public eye. They have done incalculable harm to the American Catholic church and its PEOPLE. Especially the WOMEN of the church.

      Okay, the Government says you MUST abort your child. NOW do you get it?
