available for nightly rental from a CVS (don't quote me on this) pharmacy at the dawn of the movie rental age, there was "The Chosen."  Good name for a horror movie. This one, starring Rob Steiger, Maximilian Schell, and Robby Benson, and Barry Miller, explores the cultural divide and eventual friendship between two teenage boys growing up in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, one a modern Orthodox Jew, one a Hasidic Jew. Based on the book by Chaim Potok, who also wrote "My Name is Asher Lev."
