  •  I was a kid in the 71 quake in Los Angeles. (7+ / 0-)

Woke up with aquarium water splashing on my face. We'd been drilled as to what to do during quakes so I got in the doorway.

It was hard to fathom the extent of the damage beyond: my old elementary school: condemned and demolished. My future high school: much of it condemned and demolished; we only got a gym, auditorium and cafeteria when I was a senior, 8 years later. LA High, the iconic intro to Room 222: condemned and rebuilt as a super-max prison for teens.

All my experience was around school, since that is what you think of at that age.

    •  same here, my biggest memory is watching mom's (0+ / 0-)

Mustang hopping up and down in the driveway.....

And shoveling the entire interior of my uncle's rock house out afterwards....2 floors and 12 rooms of horsehair plaster on the floor.........everything glass broken, walls held no problem......
