      But they're making detail already in the image more visible to the human eye, which is not the same as increasing the resolution of the image.

      The machines don't "see" the same way that we do- more visible to the human eye isn't really applicable.

        a number of increasingly different images of an object to process. The detail may not be in one frame, but by processing multiple frames, you can get details not available from any one frame. Sort of H.264 in reverse.
