    and have been following this terrible story closely. It's a tragedy for the family and a blot on our city, no matter who pulled the trigger.

    I agree with those whose BS detectors are now on full power, just as I agree with those who point out that we don't have enough facts at hand to start making any judgments. One of the main reasons we don't have those facts yet is because the incident is being investigated by the SBI (State Bureau of Investigation), so the Durham police aren't currently at liberty to comment. Hopefully the SBI will have information to share with the public shortly.

    For those who don't know Durham, it forms one leg of "The Triangle" -- Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, home of Duke and the Univ. of North Carolina -- very progressive, very blue communities in the heart of otherwise red Dixie. Generally speaking, our police are anything but gomers; I count several of them as friends or acquaintances, and those I've crossed paths with in the line of duty are generally quite respectful and professional. This tragic event, however it came down, is an aberration. Rest assured, the truth will out.
