  •  The MPAA's Dumb Rules (6+ / 0-)
    • Brian De Palma's 'Scarface' originally had an X-rating. De Palma cut the film three different times trying to achieve an R-rating to no avail. It was only after the studio appealed, and the MPAA reconsidered that the film achieved an R-rating. However, De Palma & the studio decided to release the original cut of the film, not the third edit.
    • At the end of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark,' the Ark of the Covenant is opened and all of the evil Nazis and their supporters are killed in incredibly gruesome ways. The worst was saved for Belloq (Paul Freeman), Indiana Jones’ main nemesis throughout the film. In the movie, his head explodes while being engulfed in flames. However, that wasn’t what director Steven Spielberg originally intended. Spielberg originally wanted Belloq’s head to explode on its own, but the MPAA deemed it too violent. So he was forced to add flames to make the explosion less graphic.
