    Participation in the filter would be voluntary on both ends:  Original posters would be free to moderate or not moderate their comments, and readers would be free to apply or not apply the OP's moderating.  I don't see how that hinders free-flowing conversation among allies.

    Are you perhaps assuming that moderation by an OP would have to happen before a comment appeared rather than after? Yes, having an OP have to approve each comment before it is posted would shut down the quick back and forth that is DKos at its best. That would be stilted.

    Perhaps I am one of the few readers of DKos who do not find it frustrating to have to scroll through pages and pages of ad hominems, trollery, rant and threadjack to find and follow the thread of truly constructive discussion of a perhaps controversial post.  Sometimes I just give up, knowing I missed out on some great comment downthread.

    Perhaps it's just my imagination, but it seems like this has been getting worse recently.

    I'm just looking for a good way for intelligent grownups to have a good online conversation and be able to press the mute button on stupid. Adam, do you have a better idea?
