    I wonder if political correctness trolling is also being used to choke off discussion.

    I recall a diary about the oil industry sending vapid PR types into the local communities hit by the Gulf oil spill, and noting that the locals referred to them as 'BP Barbies."

    The first comment had nothing to do with BP etc., but was a tirade on calling women 'Barbies.'

    I drafted a comment along the lines of 'So we can't refer to shallow types as Barbie and Ken...fine...what do you prefer to be called?'    But I never clicked send.  It would have only fed the troll and distracted from the subject at hand.

    But no one else commented.  I suspect the initial comment scared us all away.

      one of the few reasons I don't participate much any more,  After scathing pm's and replies denounceing my chopice of language (idioms, synonums, homonums, ad nauseum), I stopped talking.  Just another voice silenced, in a "supposedly" open forum..  When a user can be silenced by a few, then there is a problem.  Thank you for pointing this out.
