    to think that she doesn't have the star power, not that it is weird to say that star power is needed (or at least a big, big help) to run for president.

    You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

      an obvious aspect I hadn't considered was women voters, and how many cross over voters we'd get based on gender alone. Star power is big but ultimately the most important is winning.

      It's nuts that it's a popularity contest or an attractiveness contest but ever since Reagan my eyes were opened.

        over and over and over.  His popularity rating when he left office was abysmal, though.

        Proof that Reagan was not the stuff "stars" are made of?  He was in Hollywood for years and never made the A list.  His star power was an expensive media construct meant to support reactionary political policy.

        Charisma?  Obama, BILL Clinton, JFK, FDR.  You'd pick these guys out of any crowd.  I don't see that in anyone else right now.
