    and looking back at my childhood, the only thing that allowed me to survive her sick abuse was going to school--partly because it allowed me to get away from her for a large chunk of hours each day, and also because I had some teachers who were encouraging and nurturing to me. If I'd been homeschooled and always stuck at home with her, I never would have survived. What a nightmare that would have been!
