    Atlanta, Sherman's march through Georgia and into the Carolinas. He'd been at Vicksburg before.

    What's remarkable is that his grandson, my grandfather, married my grandmother, who grew up about two miles away from him in Illinois but whose family was flush with confederates. Grandma's father always refered to my Granddad as "the German" despite the family having been in America since the 1660s. Grandma's father was named Touton Lee Hulvey; his first and middle names for confederate generals.
