I think some doctors have to wall off their hearts somewhat from feeling all that happens to their patients, for self protection.
I think when humans close themselves to some emotions for self protection you end up being closed to most emotions (have experienced this general situation myself).

In self protection their hearts can be closed and they can lack spontaneous empathy.

I've seen my doctors not really give a damn about how my health situation is effecting my life. I"ve also reached such doctors by prying open (it felt like) that shut door.

    •  How'd you have time to pry open a doctor's heart? (0+ / 0-)

They're in and out of the room in 3 minutes, looking at their watches, not at you.  I don't think I've had one in the past 30 years who's even learned my name.

The doc who wrote this diary is an obvious exception.  I've never doubted there are doctors with hearts out there.  I just haven't seen one in the past 45 years.
