  •  I don't think everyone knows someone like that (1+ / 0-)

I don't except here on DK, for example. Well, I used to through a volunteer position I had twenty years ago before free preventive primary care medicine started in Boston (it started in Boston well before Romneycare).  I'm on Medicare and Medicaid (disabled) myself and struggle financially in other ways but not with healthcare much, at least yet.

Many people stay in their own circles. Educated mostly white upper middle class professional people who get health insurance through their job may not know anyone who is in need. Or maybe what you were getting at is they might know at least someone but don't know that about the person.

I know "friends" on FB who are angry at "paying to insure other people for free and driving up the deficit" ie the ACA who might have a different tune if they really got how the average American is struggling in the ways you describe. That people can complain like this makes me think they don't know people who are struggling and don't realize that 20-40K people die yearly in the US because of lack of health insurance. How bad American health as well as heathcare is is NOT discussed widely enough. MSM failure.

Also Obama admin and Dem messaging failure vis a vis telling people why the ACA was needed. It was not ubiquitous enough for my non political associates to have heard the statistics.

    •  You need to tell them they are already (0+ / 0-)

paying for other people's care through their taxes and higher premiums. All the care that goes to people who just can not pay has to be paid for somehow.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
