I'm an ER nurse (not in PA).  You just perfectly described our ER - except in our ER, Room 31 is the monitored cardiac room and Room 22 is the OB/Gyn room.  Anyone who thinks that the United States has the best healthcare delivery system in the world or that people can just use ERs as their access to healthcare simply has no understanding of healthcare and has likely never spent any time in an ER.  I'm off this Thanksgiving, but I give thanks to my teammates who are eating cold pizza in the break room during their Thanksgiving shifts at all the ERs across the country.

Thanks for your reply .... And I hope our colleagues had a smooth night. Hope you had a great turkey day.

An amazing number of people managed to cut and penetrate various parts of their bodies with sharp objects preparing food, cutting wood and riding 4 wheelers. I met some real nice people in the process of getting them fixed up. They were patient, sincerely thanked me when I was done and shook my hand - something like that goes an incredibly long way toward making you feel good inside.

I worked the day shift and nobody had died, nobody was passed out drunk yet or hauled in by the police because they were depressed - but the board was full and the waiting room was standing room only by the time I left at 7 pm because we are, the only game in town for miles.

On holidays we tend to get allot of 'let's ALL take grandma to the ER right now because she doesn't look as good as she did when we last saw her last 6 months ago,' traffic.

I ask him if he was warm enough? "Warm," he growled, "I haven't been warm since Bastogne."
