    What many people do not realize is that while Roman Catholic Sisters and Nuns (they actually aren't the same thing - Nuns are supposed to be cloistered and not interact with the world), as well as Friars like the Franciscans take vows of poverty in addition to the vows of obedience and chastity, regular parish priests do not. They are free to make significant incomes, live in nice houses, drive good cars (our pastor had a Mercedes) and generally enjoy their position of privilege. Some of Bergoglio's actions, specifically in regards to his living arrangements, are likely tied to his having taken a vow of poverty when first ordained, but they are nonetheless impressive, because no one in the Church would have questioned him had he chosen to live as other pontiffs have.
