  •  A friend of mine is dying. (6+ / 0-)

She is only a few years older than me.

She collapsed in the bathroom around one am, and her husband couldn't revive her.  I don't know what the cause is; I know that currently her kidneys are shutting down, and she is in a coma.  I do know that she has had high blood pressure and diabetes for a long time, and that she had pneumonia.

And, of course, like me, she doesn't have insurance.

How much that contributed to her dying at 45 is something I can't say. She worked in home health care, long, long shifts, because she had a mentally disabled son that she was paying for a bed at a good place for.  I feel sorry for him too. I feel sorry for her 18 year old son who is losing his mother, and who had the stark agony of a younger child visible in his body. I feel sorry for her husband. He's only had her in his life for two years.

But now it is time to pray that she goes peacefully (and soon....critical care is expensive) and that her sons and her husband can find peace and comfort.

When you come to find how essential the comfort of a well-kept home is to the bodily strength and good conditions, to a sound mind and spirit, and useful days, you will reverence the good housekeeper as I do above artist or poet, beauty or genius.
