consciously or unconsciously by body features, shapes, gender, ethnicity, religious affiliation, skin color, etc., so we need to respect the sensitivities of anyone who perceives that they or someone else are being profiled for that. The hurt portrayed in sideboth's diary was moving, heartfelt and sincere, and her experiences should be respected and validated. So should those who've experienced sizeism, sexism, anti-Semitism, ageism, or any other "-ism."

I think what you are saying is in part what others have been trying to throughout this messy "debate" since yesterday: That even though someone may perceive something is bigoted or discriminatory, it doesn't automatically mean it is. Despite attempts to portray Rall, or those defending the ambiguity of the particular representation of Obama, as a racist, the issue is not one of dismissing perceptions of the strip as being offensive, but whether sincere progressive members of this blog could agree to disagree about the intent.

art form. What is argued is whether or not it is racist, which I, SD, and many others feel it isn't. I don't get moved when people feel offended. I get moved when people experience something very real. I am the descendant of holocaust survivors with a family that grew up behind the iron curtain, and I know full well what prejudice feels like first hand. That some people would guffaw at that because I'm white shows a double standard.

And you know what? People on this site, when the GOP act offended sit there and mock mercilessly. Which i don't care about, actually. I love it to a point. But then for some to turn around from saying "Lieberman is a lying piece of shit" (literally this is on a front page article) to "be more considerate!" from some people here? No. That's inconsistent. Not accusing you, just speaking broadly.

There are no special groups. Not with me. Life is a shit sandwich. So much so that one doesn't have to imagine slights like with a Rall cartoon. There are enough real racists and racism in the world.
