    My guess is a lot of these scams really are apolitical; it seems to me there's plenty of people just trying to score a buck - similar to the books on "free money from the government" about federal grants.  They're basically taking advantage of a change in government policy to scare or entice people into buying something that will help them "benefit" or "understand" the system.

    BTW - I have experience with the infamous AOL client...  Always an older person, and it makes sending files almost impossible.  They're typically the ones that still want to fax you everything.  ;)  The fact that they charge so much money for such a bogus service is really pathetic.
