most circumstances.  Having witnessed the treatment of vets regarding PTSD and Agent Orange circa 1970, I thought I had seen it all.  Now there are reports that vets with "mental health issues" (this includes not only PTSD but also homosexuality) were lobotomized by the VA 1945-1955 because one hotshot doc thought he had found the magic bullet for curing all mental disorders (you have to remember being gay in those days was considered a mental disorder)

It was heartbreaking to read the interview with one AAC vet who had flown 27 bomber missions over France and Germany and whose "treatment" consisted of a lobotomy which was inserting a needle through his eye to destroy parts of his frontal lobe.  Anyone who flew 27 combat missions in WWII and did not emerge with some issues simply would not be human.  His dx? Anxiety, night terrors and some degree of paranoia.  Classic PTSD symptoms which had been recognized in the medical journals since the Civil War.

As noted, vets and active duty get a raw deal which they don't deserve
