    It makes the most sense, but the current corporate structure in our energy generation and distribution system is threatened by a new model. Of course, as a national security issue, the grid should be nationalized, and electricity made so cheap we won't have to meter it.

      new reality. There's still money in it for the utilities, to maintain and improve the grid.
      We absolutely must have small scale solar and wind on every building and property where it's feasible.
      And other forms of clean energy and energy efficiency.

      There are battles going on with the utilities all across the country. Eventually the survivors are going to be the companies that make room for the new technologies.

      You can't make this stuff up.

      money off things.  They'll buy the patents and sit on them first, if they can make money off the alternatives.

      This is another reason to support public research rather than private research where the profits are held privately.
