    excellent reply, leevank. its this type of selective, yet doctrinal approach that so annoys me about steadfast traditionalism (or conservatism, or whatever you want to call it) in just about any domain: progressivism looks at what works, and tries to keep those things in place, while moving forward. as a movement, it looks to possibilities in the future. conservatism, to me, seems almost exactly antithetical: it looks to the past for possibilities. but when looking to the past, it so often ignores so much of what didnt work, and what didnt make sense.
