a small party at home and invited some of our favorite people we didn't get to see enough.

One of them was the 20s-something manager of a burger restaurant we frequented. He started working there at age 16 while in high school and was someone I visited with, encouraged and urged to continue his education on into college. In a way, I was an informal mentor to him and had known him many years as he worked his way up to manager (and continued college part time).

Anyway, here's my point:  he showed up at the party in a modern day Zoot Suit, baggy pants, long coat and wide-brimmed hat.  He turned out to be the life of the party. He and his cousins (you always have to have a primo along, right?) stayed until about 3 am, all of us ending up around the kitchen table and old me, dozing off, while talking.

Later on, he invited us to his sisters quinceañera.

The Zoot Suit style still pops up among young Latin guys and they carry it off well.
