    ...in that photo of Thelonius Monk and his buddies. They just look like suits, no pegged cuffs, chains, padded shoulders, just fashion.

      Zoot suits are an example of quantity over quality. Monk et al. are bucking the usual "dressing up" modus operandi by favoring quality over quantity.
