      Being armed, one doesn't have to use the gun. But one has an option, if necessary. The threat of force provides better bargaining. Happens all the times between nations.

      Without a gun, you throw yourself on someone's mercy.

      You take a risk either way, but I prefer options and planning to luck and mercy.

          Really?  The government is shooting dozens of people every day?

          I wasn't talking about negotiating with common thugs and criminals, and you know it.

          But since you brought it up, you show me a murderer who lets his unarmed victims go because the kill isn't sporting enough for him.  Show me the protection granted by being unarmed.
