  •  Great point -- now (7+ / 0-)

the problem is how to get business interests mobilized to pressure states about their restrictive abortion laws.  That's an area where the Republicans have succeeded in carrying out the religious right agenda in many states.

line, then they'll listen. These are our new power brokers, nothing demonstrates this to me more than the idea that we have to get them on our side to enact change.

that they'll suffer because of those laws. The proof is in the pudding, or the dollars.

Anti-gay, anti-Hispanic, and the long ago discredited anti-black, make a person seem like a hater.  Average people don't like haters, which is why Dems are doing well in national and state-wide elections in recent years (presidency and Senate).

But, to average people, you can be against abortion for deeply moral reasons.  Being against abortion doesn't make you a hater.  In fact, I know many people who are strongly against abortion, but they wouldn't vote for it to be illegal. And, some of them actually feel guilty about that position.

So, while you are "mean" and a "hater" if you are against gays, or other minority groups, you can be principled and moral (if misguided) if you are anti-abortion.

So, the Corporations have no fear of being on the wrong side of public opinion regarding abortion.
