  •  Seriously? (0+ / 0-)

Is there some other party that begins with Dem?

    DemJesusGuys?
    DemIsUs?

The religious right is not ripe ground for Democrats. Democrats would rather call them stupid, not reach out. The only preaching Democrats like is preaching to the choir.

reach out to the religious right? I'd rather they reach out to believers in general as a community, but not to the extreme RR in particular. Just as they should go for conservative voters where there is common ground, while realizing Neo-Confederates are both out-of-reach and also not worth the bother.

they might go to Democrats, however --

I would love to see Democrats act smarter and find useful areas of common ground.

Won't happen in my lifetime, I suspect.

        •  They used to vote Dem... (0+ / 0-)

The south was solid Roosevelt country for four decades.  Then the Dems went away from being the "party of the working man", and became the "party of blacks, war protesters, hippies, feminists, and freaks".  That's how my Dad, a lifelong Roosevelt Dem, explained it to me after he voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980.

Dems destroyed the Dem party base in the fundamentalist south.  Republicans couldn't have done it without them,...at least they couldn't do it without them for 40 years.
