  •  I'm so glad you're ok BB. (5+ / 0-)

    Dehydration is bad.

Don't ever take any more vicidin, or percoset or percodan.

Tell them to give you plain oxycodone, if you ever need pain meds again.

Say you're allergic to all over the counter pain meds, like tylenol, motrin, aspirin, etc. That's the part that made you so sick.

And never take more than 2 or 3 in a 24 hr time. I don't care what the bottle says. It's wrong. These opiates are very strong and toxic in themselves.

Also could be you just can't take opiate drugs. My Sister can't take codeine. Makes her very sick.

    •  I haven't taken them in 17 years because I've (9+ / 0-)

always hated the way they make me feel. I didn't want to take them, but my mom and gf insisted that I needed to before the anesthetic wore off and I was in severe pain.

It was good advice, but I stopped at two, I think. I didn't have any after about noon on Thursday.

      P.S. I am not a crackpot.

    •  please stop spreading lies about opioid pain meds (5+ / 0-)

They are not "toxic in themselves" any more than any medication. 2-3 in a day?  that's at most 15-22.5mg of Hydrocodone for Vicodin, a mild opioid that I can't even tell I took to 15mg of Oxycodone for the Percoset....

You are actually in more danger from the Tylenol in Percoset and Vicodin than you are from the opioid portion of the medication...Which is why when tolerance is built after years, the Tylenol goes away and it's just pure Oxycodone prescribed from then on.

10 Vicodin or Percoset at once might kill my liver, probably would, but I would barely feel the opioid.....

A bad reaction is possible with anything, kids die from a peanut.

Attitudes like you just posted are part of why so many suffer needlessly when the drugs to kill the pain are available...The DEA beats Doctors regularly, to the point they won't prescribe enough pain control for a terminal patient because they might get fucking what....

Lots of us are alive today due to pain meds taking enough of the edge off so we don't blow our brains out from the non stop constant pain.

You enable the DEA to further demonize and torture Chronic Pain Patients by giving the scum cover......Please for the sake of us CP patients, stop......

      •  The Tylenol IS more dangerous than the narcotics. (6+ / 0-)

This point must be hammered home. I hate that necessary pain meds are adulterated with the useless & toxic Tylenol, and that the safer unadulterated forms are more difficult or impossible to obtain. I never take Tylenol under any circumstances, EVER--it's as useful to me as rat poison.

Bonus: I'm allergic to several real painkillers, too. Which makes it a fucking nightmare to get any pain relief at all, especially since knowing the few specific meds that work for me, and being able to quickly specify all the ones that don't, seems too 'suspicious' in this pain-is-criminalized, DEA-centric world.

In lieu of ranting further myself, I endorse your entire rant, buddabelly. Pain & the resulting lack of sleep make me rather rant-y.

    •  Let me rephrase the title line because I don't (5+ / 0-)

think you are doing it to be malicious and if not, lying is too harsh...

      Let's call it spreading misinformation.....

Even those with med degrees would never give prescription or such specific dosage information without complete history and a workup. As far as I can tell by what you've posted, you're a good meaning soul who is posting questionable if not bad advice at several points throughout last night and now here. You have no idea what her prescription strength, frequency, and tolerance is, yet you are bold enough to say "you don't care what the bottle says, don't take more than two or three". This could actually cause more problems if she follows your advice and, for instance, and lets post-op pain get away. Instead of following the prescribed dose, which will keep pain under control, by skipping too many doses patients can find themselves in a situation where they then can't get a handle on their pain.

Oh... And no. Boise does not need to demand straight oxycodone from her doctors, for reasons of allergy or any other. Without documented allergic reaction, she's likely to then be labeled as a drug-seeker and denied ALL narcotics. Please stop giving her such specific medical advice; well meaning though it is, it is likely to be the exact opposite of helpful should she find herself in such a situation again.
