    A good friend of mine, now dead, was a lifelong diabetic subject to hypoglycemic episodes in which she was almost completely unable to move, and also to the occasional grand mal seizure.  She disliked anything that suggested that she was limited in any way; fortunately her husband prevailed upon her – over her initial objections – to carry an information sheet in an outside pocket of her purse.  She and I were sitting side by side listening to a talk at the International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo when she ‘froze’ and just managed to point me in the general direction of the sheet.  (It was also fortunate that I tend to read anything that you put in front of me, so I wasn’t completely clueless when she had a seizure later that evening.)
