    Hint number one.  If you want to thaw a frozen steak perfectly, heat your big oven to 120 degrees, then cut it off.  Put your steaks in and an hour or less, depending on thickness, the steaks are perfectly thawed perfectly with no hot/done spots.  It works like a charm for thick pork chops too.  It has become my preferred way to thaw steaks.

    Hint number two.  If your budget, and your counter top can accomodate a Breville oven, do it. $250. at Bed Bath and Beyond, and $200. with a coupon.  I have had mine for about three years.  It works perfectly, takes less energy to heat and cooks potatoes to perfection, broils toast, bagels, cooks pizza.  It is my second convection oven and reduces my heating up the big oven.  There is a smaller one that is non-convection.  Don't know about how good it is.
