    doesn't appear to support your thesis. It says that World Kitchen is a Corning spin-off that licensed the Pyrex name but changed the composition of the glass. If I'm reading correctly, the new formulation is mechanically stronger (won't break as easily from being dropped) but more likely to shatter from temperature stress.
