over anything else is recurring sales, an endless cycle of replacement. And even that is not good enough: when you used to buy a hard copy book, or a record, cassette, or CD, DVD, blu-ray or even an E-book or an MP3 song stored on your local hard drive or memory card, they are now pushing a subscription model in the cloud that replaces physical ownership with a recurring monthly payment in which you lose access to the media as soon as you stop making the payments. This model has also moved to computer software. You no longer have physical authorization to use, for example, the newest version of Microsoft Office. You rent a subscription from the "cloud". When you stop paying or lose access to the cloud it stops working.
